About this Project

BMO Financial Group had a legacy application developed using Microsoft Silverlight. As the framework became outdated, the application faced growing security, performance, compatibility, scalability, and maintenance risks. The project focused on replacing the legacy Silverlight system with a modern, maintainable, and scalable application architecture using .NET and Angular.

Key Challenges

Five constraints we had to work around

01

Security Risks

The outdated Silverlight framework exposed the application to potential security vulnerabilities.

02

Performance Issues

The legacy system struggled to meet modern performance expectations, resulting in slow response times and a weaker user experience.

03

Compatibility Problems

Silverlight’s limited browser support and dependency on outdated technologies created compatibility issues across modern browsers and devices.

04

Scalability Concerns

The existing infrastructure could not efficiently support growing user volumes and increasing data volumes.

05

Maintenance Difficulties

Maintaining the ageing Silverlight codebase demanded specialised effort and became progressively costlier as vendor support wound down.

What We Did

Understand first. Then simplify.

  • Reviewed the existing Silverlight architecture, workflows, dependencies, and database structure.
  • Re-engineered backend services using .NET.
  • Built RESTful APIs for smooth backend and frontend communication.
  • Rebuilt the frontend in Angular with a component based structure.
  • Implemented NgRx for better state management and performance.
  • Integrated the new frontend with the .NET backend.
  • Conducted unit, integration, end to end, and user acceptance testing.
  • Deployed the application in phases using Azure DevOps CI/CD.
  • Provided training, documentation, monitoring, and post deployment support.

In Their Words

Trusted by enterprise leaders

What decision-makers say about working with Techverx.

5 stars

We worked with Techverx on the development of an application. Their team took on the task as though it was being developed for themselves. Their expertise, support and contributions were very key to the success. Techverx continues to be involved in further development for our company. I highly recommend their services.

5 stars

We reached out to Techverx in March 2019 and asked them to provide us with a proof of concept for a new subsystem that we were building. They rose to challenge and delivered a great POC in the four week timeframe. Since, that time Techverx has been a great partner for us. They are an integral part of both our architecture and development teams.

David Gay Head of Engineering — Lightpoint

Working with Techverx has been a great collaboration is more than an understatement. They are engaging, interactive and futuristic. The inhouse support is always there around the clock to keep us updated about the process.

Techverx got us from a stuck pilot to a governed production system in a single quarter — they understood compliance as well as engineering.
